Just a few weeks ago, Ethan preached a message and pointed out the four major pillars of the early church’s worship together as a body. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (NIV). Over the next few newsletters I want to look at how we can worship under each of these pillars.
The Apostle’s Teaching:
Because of our culture, it is easy to look just at the music we sing as our worship. But have you ever considered that we worship by learning through sermons and teachings? When we are in right relationship with God, we have the understanding of how great He is and how high above us He is (Isaiah 55:9). As we come to know God better, through His teachings in scripture and from those He has ordained to teach, we can better see the glory of His majesty and worship Him in our lives.
There were occasions where the early church would literally sit for hours listening to a great teacher (see Acts 20:7-12)! This is a critical part of how we worship together as a body.
