Of all the different styles or approaches to share my faith in Jesus Christ, the one I feel that God has developed and refined as my primary approach, would have to be the direct approach.
To be honest, this is one that I have had to grow in through the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. The testimonial or creative approaches are easier for me to function within, but the direct approach is of greatest calling for me.
My ministry as a Preacher and Teacher have definitely been dependent upon this approach. Not only that, God has provided many opportunities to share Jesus with those seeking hope in Christ for the first time at church and in the community through the direct approach.
I have had to overcome insecurities, fear and selfishness to allow the Holy Spirit to produce this in me. When I do share the Good News of Jesus through the direct approach, it gives me so much joy in the Lord. I know it is God moving beyond me and I know it is the power of God working within me.
A few Scriptures that I have held onto and sought the Lord through so I can be more effective in the direct approach are as follows:
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” (1 Peter 3:15-NIV)
“Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2-NLT)
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” (Romans 1:16-NIV)
There is no greater calling than to share the hope and truth of Jesus with others. There is no greater joy than to lead someone to salvation in Christ. There is no greater act of love for us than to share our faith with others.
Whether it be direct, intellectual, testimonial, interpersonal, service, invitational or creative… it is all the power of God at work in us and the love of God at work through us. Whatever God is producing in you… SHARE YOUR FAITH!
*I wanted to thank the ministry staff (Ethan, Micah and Sarah) for visuals, discovery journal and all the leg work to pull-off this week’s theme - “Sharing My Faith”. I am grateful to serve alongside each one of you. I also wanted to thank the seven wonderful people who served as our panel in both services this last Sunday. You all are a wonderful example of a heart for God and a heart for others.
